Jordan and Woods: when sport inspires entrepreneurship
If sport and entrepreneurship have one thing in common, it’s the will. As such, we could take two examples of athletes who have never abdicated and prove that everything is possible when you hold on to his dreams: Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan. Two different trajectories, two huge athletes, two sources of inspiration.

1/Michael Jordan: When basketball is stronger than anything

Jordan starts his career as a professional player at the Chicago Bulls in 1984. He quickly set the tone and established himself as one of the best players in the NBA, thanks to his spectacular dunks from the free throw line and his excellent statistics. He won his first title in 1991, and went on to win two more titles in 1992 and 1993. Simultaneously, he led the American team, the famous “dream team” to the Olympic victory in Barcelona at the Olympics in 1992.

After the murder of his father in 1993, Air Jordan announced his retirement from NBA to start his career as a baseball player, a sport he has always loved.

But on March 2, 1995, he announced his return to the NBA, with the Bulls and leads to 3 new NBA championship titles in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

A breathtaking comeback for the best player in basketball history. He has, beyond his sporting career, become a true businessman and make his name a brand in its own right, since his shoe brand affiliated to Nike (the Jordan Brand created in 1997), represents today one of the biggest sales of the brand to the brand ($ 1 billion in 2009). Closer to home, Paris-Saint-Germain has signed a partnership agreement with Jordan to be an equipment supplier for his European jersey.

2/ Tiger Woods: from hell to heaven

In 2017, Tiger Woods points beyond the 1000th place in the world rankings. Victim of a medical disorder and multiple back operations, he will then make a smashing comeback. He returns to the competition on October 30, 2017 at its foundation tournament, the Hero World Challenge. He ranked 9th. After long months of training in his garden, punctuated by uncertainty, he performs 2 tournaments in February 2018. He performs well in major tournaments. It gives him a selection at the Ryder Cup in Paris in 2018. In front of a delirious crowd that invades the fairway of 18 to follow his ascent, he won the last tournament of the season, the Tour Championship. He thus renews with the victory, that he had not known since 2013.

In April 2019, he won his fifth green jacket at the Augusta Masters, the first major tournament of the season. A global recognition, from sportsmen to politicians, from his comeback is hailed. It mades the front page of all newspapers as the biggest comeback in history.

Moreover, Woods is working hard for his foundation, the TGR. It works to promote education and give scholarships to young people. The tiger, as a good businessman also has his own brand, TW, affiliated with his historical sponsor Nike.

Two examples from the world of sport that illustrate the fact that no obstacle is insurmountable. There is no doubt that the participants of the START-UP GOLF CHALLENGE and the MY PITCH IS GOOD contest will be able to draw inspiration from it.
